Edscha Trailer Systems, Europe’s market and technology leader for sliding truck roofs, has revised its portfolio for its rail customers and is now presenting three new products.
RailWay OpenBox
- The unique roof for box wagons (E-wagons)
The latest Edscha TS roof for open freight cars of the standard design E is called RailWay OpenBox and increases the operating comfort and efficiency of this wagon class. Developed and constructed by practically thinking engineers, it is a brilliantly simple, technical solution that has been registered for patent approval and that transfers the comfort of a modern Edscha TS roof to E-wagons. Thus, the days of time-consuming and dangerous covering work with loose tarpaulins are over. The Railway OpenBox roof weighs only 300 kg for a ten-metre length and thus guarantees a higher payload.
Further advantages are the protection of the load from rain (weight increase) and wind (loss of material) as well as saving energy from a substantial improvement of the cw-value when the roof is closed, both with and without a load. The RailWay OpenBox roof can be opened and closed by one person from below and from the side in a short time. The screws and the floating suspension of the rails make the retrofitting of the system fast and simple. Even with deformations of up to 60 mm the roof still runs smoothly and stays sealed. And if a repair is necessary at any time then the roof is ready for use again very quickly thanks to the modular structure comprising steel rails and exchangeable segments. The RailWay OpenBox system is not subject to any certification limitations and can be used universally.

Travelling with unsealed roofs carries many risks that can cause unnecessary risks because the weather and turbulence affect the cargo.
The new Edscha TS sealing system for retrofitting and initial fitting on all standard covered wagons of the classes Shimmns and Rilns eliminates the problem of leaking and saves the transporter expensive consequential costs. The rubber profiles can be retrofitted easily, even on older wagons with corresponding signs of wear. At the same time, they act as very effective and long-lasting edge protection during loading and unloading.The new Edscha TS sealing system is patented and has passed extensive testing and practical applications with flying colours. The clip system can be mounted on any bow form, anywhere and at any time. No rivets, adhesive or special tools are needed – simply press into place and you’re done.
