It also runs safely and well on rails!

It doesn't work without: tarpaulin covers on the railroads

Soft top systems from EdschaTS belong on trucks, tippers, and railroad freight cars. Although the latter is not quite as well-known, it is nevertheless an important product area for the market leader in sliding roofs. Technologically, at any rate, the convertible top systems for the railroad are similar to the developments for trucks or tippers, but with essential special features that only affect the railroad. Incidentally, the systems are tested and approved by the railroads themselves before use. After all, just like their brothers and sisters on the road, the family members for the railroad have to be not only practical and safe, but completely tailored to the requirements of the railroad.

Freight still loves the truck

When asked who is more successful in transporting goods - truck or train - the answer is currently clear: freight loves trucks. Whether this will also be the case in the future certainly depends on many factors. These include technical developments, but also the political will to do more for the railroads. From today's perspective, it will not be easy to shift large parts of freight traffic from road to rail. After all, the railroads are facing an enormous investment volume and the task of developing new structures and forms of organization.

On the other hand, for climate reasons alone, it will not be possible tomorrow without rail. The idea of so-called combined transport has long demonstrated that trucks and rail transport can complement each other well. The truck or semi-trailer is parked on a special train which then transports it further. Combined transport on rails is a safe and usually also faster alternative to road. Driving bans on Sundays and holidays are no longer an issue. During the journey, the driver can rest in additionally attached accompanying wagons with seating or couchette facilities; the driving time is officially recognized as resting time.

Sliding bar roofs are also available at the railroad

Sliding bar tops are not only used in the truck sector, but also for freight wagons in the railroad sector. The proven roof solutions ensure fast, smooth and safe loading and unloading. Last but not least, the soft tops have been known for decades for their robustness and durability. What the railroads particularly appreciate about the EdschaTS systems is their reliability. After all, a wagon is usually designed for a service life of at least 36 years!

The new variant: Open Box for panel vans

As on the road, there are also different classes of vehicles on the railroad. For example, the latest EdschaTS soft top for open freight cars of the standard type E (panel van) is "Railway OpenBox". This solution considerably increases the operating comfort and efficiency of this class of wagons. The Railway OpenBox soft top also offers a certain "lightness": it weighs only about 300 kilograms over a length of ten meters and thus guarantees a higher payload. Further advantages are the protection of the cargo from rain and wind as well as energy savings, due to a considerable improvement of the cw-value when the roof is closed, both with and without cargo. The "RailWay OpenBox" top can be safely opened and closed by one person from the side and from below in a short time. Due to its flexibility, it can be used universally and even retrofitted without problems in most cases.

The risk with leaking tops

Driving with leaking convertible tops is associated with many risks, especially when driving by train. For example, if the cargo becomes damp and thus unusable, such an incident is not only annoying but also causes unnecessary costs. EdschaTS has therefore developed a new sealing system for the retrofitting and original equipment of hood wagons (shimmns) and flat wagons with tarpaulin tops (rilns). The rubber profiles are easy to retrofit even on older wagons that show corresponding wear and tear. The patented sealing system can be mounted on practically any shape of bows. And it does so without the use of any tools, without riveting or gluing.

The complete program: Spare parts from EdschaTS

And this too is only available from Edscha TS: complete spare parts for hood truck tops from all manufacturers. This means that, if the worst comes to the worst, rail logistics specialists have only one contact partner when it comes to the ever-exasperating demand for a specific spare part. At EdschaTS a complete range of spare parts is available for most of the well-known Shimmns tops (hood cars), even for older vintages. The portfolio consists of a wide range of variants and standardized assemblies, including customized special designs. Just give us a call!
